Stylish Kitchen Design Trends – Fresh For 2014

Does your kitchen look just as it did when you bought your home 20 years ago? If so, it may be time for a complete makeover. Here at Leominster Building Supplies, we’re always monitoring the latest in design trends to ensure we offer our customers nothing less than the best.

In our latest article we look at the year ahead in kitchens; here are some of the hottest trends for 2014:

Patterned Splash Backs
The new style is all about fun and colour! Forget those ‘metro’ square patterns that were so popular over 20 years ago. Choose ornate Turkish or Mexican designs with bold colours to make your splash back stand out. Keep the rest of the kitchen simple, using solid, neutral colours such as grey or white.

Natural, Organic Materials
Textured stone, rich wood and soft hues all help create a kitchen that blurs the line between indoors and outdoors. Granite remains a popular choice for counters, but butcher-block style counter tops are also making a comeback this year, adding functionality to the design. For environmentally friendly materials, look at recycled materials for countertops, such as glass, wood or metal.

Matching Wall and Floor Tiles
To create a geometric look that makes a bold statement, go for matching wall and floor tiles. Ceramic is still a must-have material for floor and makes excellent wall tiles as well. They come in a variety of colours and styles and if you keep the rest of your kitchen neutral and simple, will be the most eye-catching room in your home.

Worktop Zoning
Families use the kitchen for more than just cooking and eating, so it makes sense to zone certain areas for other uses. The corner desk/office space is the most popular and is a great place to do homework, catch up with some work or just look up new recipe ideas. Use contrasting colours or separate lighting to ‘zone’ your separate space. Works great for breakfast bars too!

Copper Accessories
If your makeover budget motto is not ‘the sky’s the limit’, then using copper for accessories and small appliances is a great way to go. It will give you the trendiest look for an affordable price. Copper tea kettles, cookware and faucets can transform any dull kitchen into a bright and colourful one.
